Lyrical Dance Lyrical dance incorporates both ballet and jazz technique. Through lyrical choreography, the dancer tells the story of the music he/she is dancing to. It's rhythmic movements use the entire body, extending the body line and avoiding sharp, stationary, angular movements. Along with developing strength, flexibility, control, and balance, emphasis is placed on emotional and expressive qualities. Lyrical Dance is a lovely dance style for the ballet and jazz dancer. This class is offered only to our Intermediate and Advanced students.
Modern Dance Modern dance was founded as a way to break away from classical ballet. It is danced barefoot and often to music from far away lands and rhythmic drumming. Modern dance was created to be very different from classical ballet in that it uses an off balance look and generates mobility of the spine. Modern dance incorporates the principles of releasing and contracting the body, and of lateral movement. It works on the premise of opposites, up-down, left-right, contraction and release, fall and recover. Our classes focus on skills in isolation, syncopation, strength, rhythm, contraction, and expansion. The student is taught to express emotion physically through dance. This course develops a great core strength, while increasing flexibility. There are many forms of modern dance. We expose are students to Limon, Graham, Horton, Ailey and Hawkins techniques. Modern is offered only to Intermediate and Advanced students.

There are as many styles of hip hop as there are teachers. Important aspects of hip hop are attitude and musicality, and the movements lend themselves to rap, hip hop and pop music.
